The firm has been serving the greater Atlanta area as well as out-of–state clients who have legal, business or financial interests in the Atlanta area since June 1, 1986. The firm has maintained its office at 3953 Holcomb Bridge Road, Suite 200, twice expanding to accommodate growth needs until we now occupy the entire second floor of this building in Spalding Exchange.
The firm members come from a variety of backgrounds. JOHN GIBSON was raised in Mobile, Alabama, and is a founding member of the firm, coming from the north Atlanta law firm of Somers & Altenbach, where he was first an associate and later a partner. John graduated from the Emory University law school in 1973. He also worked at the firm of McCurdy & Candler as an intern while he was in law school.
JIMMY DEAL was raised in Brunswick, Georgia, and attended the University of Georgia graduating from its School of Law in 1981 after obtaining his undergraduate degree from its College of Business Administration with a B.B.A. in Accounting in 1978. Jimmy had previously served while in law school as a legal intern to the Georgia Court of Appeals, an intern for the firm of Telford, Stewart & Stephens, in Gainesville, Georgia, and working as an intern in the U.S. Senate Office for Herman Talmadge. Jimmy joined Somers & Altenbach as an associate in 1981. When that firm dissolved in 1986, he and John Gibson founded this firm as Gibson and Deal, P.C.
WILLIAM A. FLETCHER was raised in a military family and graduated from the US Military Academy at West Point in 1974 and served in the U.S. Air Force, where he flew F-4D Phantom II fighter jets. He left the active duty in the Air Force in 1983 (although he stayed active in Georgia Air National Guard for years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel) and went to Law School at Emory University, graduating in 1986. He started his own law practice, then formed McCurdy & Fletcher, and when that firm dissolved, he joined this firm in 1992, when it changed its name to Gibson, Deal and Fletcher, P.C.
